Otherness is a term used to describe the out-groups or individuals or any group that does not meet the criteria to be a part of the dominant group. This feeling of otherness often give rise to the feeling of prejudices and ethnocentric thoughts for other groups and is used not only in the context of minority groups but in the day-to-day life for smaller things as well. For example, to get an entry into a kitty party the person has to fulfill all the criteria like belonging to the upper class and that all should be female, etc. anything that does not fulfill the criteria becomes other group or people who are different from them. Its usually a fight between us and them.
